Dr James Cullis – Investing in Ecological Infrastructure
On 27 January 2021, Dr James Cullis from Zutari presented to the WC Branch on the topic of ecological infrastructure (EI). He noted that South Africa has a strong heritage of valuing EI.
SAICE National Awards 2020
Once again, Covid-19 interfered with this year’s WC Regional Awards Dinner. There were insufficient entrants Nationally to warrant Awards Events at regional level, and it was decided after much deliberation to cancel all Regional Awards and pool all the nominations received to hold one event Nationally. The National Awards Ceremony, in partnership with PPS, was held on Thursday, 12 November in Johannesburg, and the event was live-streamed on social media platforms.
68th Snape Memorial Lecture by Prof Vanderschuren
Our own Prof Marianne Vanderschuren presented the Snape Memorial Lecture 2020 on the 11th of November. The Snape Memorial Lecture (SML) was instituted in 1953 by the UCT students to honour the late Prof Snape. Presenting online, to 90 delegates, Prof Vanderschuren chose to follow the common structure by first introducing Prof Snape, then herself, after which she commenced into her actual lecture content, answering the question: Is Transport Planning and Implementation Failing 75% of our Citizens?
SAICE Western Cape Presidential Visit 2020
On 19th August 2020, SAICE Western Cape hosted its Presidential Visit, welcoming SAICE CEO, Mr. Vishaal Lutchman and SAICE President for 2020, Mr. Fana Marutla to the Western Cape Branch.
