This year the SAICE Western Cape Branch decided to change things up a bit and combine our Regional Awards Ceremony with our Annual Dinner at Kelvin Grove. By all accounts the night was a success, with guests treated to delicious food, good company and an interesting selection of award-winning projects. In the week of 4th March 2019, the SAICE Presidential delegation including Acting SAICE CEO, Steven Kaplan, SAICE 2019 President, Brian Downie, and SAICE Communications, Lorraine Mpofana made their way to Cape Town for a 2-day visit to the Western Cape. As part of their visit, the Presidential Delegation engaged with HOD’s, Staff and students of the three Western Cape tertiary institutions (CPUT, UCT and Stellenbosch)
The year got off to a roaring start with a presentation on the challenges of big infrastructure projects. We held the water competition. We are currently involved with the planning of the Bridge building competition and the Regional awards evening. Look out for communication regarding the two events.
On 5 March 2019, Bridgette Kerst invited the young members from the Western Cape Branch Committee to attend a workshop focused on SAICE’s way forward in addressing issues surrounding diversity and inclusion. A lively discussion led to some excellent concrete plans for quick win and longer term goals.

A double header with Henry Fagan telling us about the design of the Bosjes Chapel (between Worcester and Ceres) and Andrew Rowe about the part PERI-Formwork played in making it happen.
We must be grateful that the inflow to the dams providing Cape Town’s water was “normal” for weeks 21 to 27, dam levels hitting 44% at the end of June, 59% by mid-August and 74.2% on 25 September…
