Welcome to 2018. Can we hope for a wetter winter this year? Hardly a conversation begins or ends without some discussion on the disastrous effects the drought is having on the lives of all Capetonians and on our industry and nobody believes the 1 in 400 year drought frequency resulting from three successive very dry years, even though they can see it for themselves.

Thanks, Andrew, for your ever-practical leadership in the Branch Chair over the past two years, and for your continued support this year. And thank you for your notes from the Property Developers Forum breakfast meeting/seminar of 13 December 2017, reproduced (edited) on Pg3.

Congratulations to Kevin Wall, Professor in the Department of Construction Economics at the University of Pretoria (Past President of SAICE, formerly of the Western Cape Branch) who was awarded SAICE’s Gold Medal (for meritorious research) in November last year. The Gold Medal is the highest honour that can be bestowed by the Institution on a Corporate Member and has been awarded to less than two dozen people since its inception nearly 70 years ago. Well done Prof Kevin!
