Once again, Covid-19 interfered with this year’s WC Regional Awards Dinner. There were insufficient entrants Nationally to warrant Awards Events at regional level, and it was decided after much deliberation to cancel all Regional Awards and pool all the nominations received to hold one event Nationally. The National Awards Ceremony, in partnership with PPS, was held on Thursday, 12 November in Johannesburg, and the event was live-streamed on social media platforms.

The Western Cape Branch was one of the branches that submitted a number of entries across the board, and received a number of awards that included the following:

Young Engineer of the Year Award
Mr Byron Mawer, JG Afrika

Technical Excellence Award
SMEC – V&A Waterfront Swing Bridge Project and Zutari for Raising of Garden Route Dam Project

Community Based Project Award
Zutari – UISP Emergency Shared Basic Services Project in Mossel Bay

JG Afrika received a high commendation for Nkungumathe Irrigation Scheme

A big thank you to all companies and individuals who entered the awards.

Thank you to our panel of judges who were on standby to adjudicate the Regional Awards pending National Office’s decision.
We hope to reinstate our own Regional Awards combined with our Annual Dinner in 2021, as this is our Flagship event and has become a must attend event on our Regional Calendar.
