The past two years have been very exciting for the SAICE-WC branch. We managed to emerge from the pandemic resolved to reconnect civil engineering practitioners and to reaffirm the value of civil engineering in society.

We have achieved a lot and are excited to continue amongst others to promote civil engineering as a career at schools through school visits and school competitions, to connect students with practitioners to provide them with insight into the industry and encourage them to stay in industry, to maintain a conversation amongst members about the interesting and varied work civil engineering practitioners do, to inspire members through the stories and experiences of others, and to continue to represent the industry to government and the public generally who often do not appreciate what civil engineering practitioners do.

We are a committee made up of volunteers who all have other roles and responsibilities and I wish to thank them for their generous time and effort to steward the civil engineering profession.

I wish you all a well-deserved year end break and hope you come back rested and inspired to continue to make civil engineering a most worthwhile profession!
