The SAICE Western Cape AGM was held on Wednesday 20th November 2019 at the Athenaeum in Newlands. It was well attended with 30+ members, however, not enough to constitute a quorum. It was agreed to continue with the meeting, and any challenges made to the decisions taken would be considered by the new elected committee.

The outgoing chairman, Emmanuel Akampurira, gave a brief overview of the branch activities for the year, highlighting the success of the Aqualibrium competition, as well as the new MERIT competition, which helped SAICE grow its reach with young members.

The chairman also highlighted the changes to the branch committee for 2020, including the following:

Resigned:
Alice Chang, Olivia O’Brien, Pravanya Pillay.
8 Nominations had been received and accepted:
Lauren Arendse, Wagner Human, Wilberforce Wanjau Chege, Rebecca Ilunga, Dakalo Nekvhambe, Kabelo Mokoka, Wassefa Ebrahim, Theunis van Zyl.
New Chairman:
Byron Mawer
New Vice Chair:

On conclusion of the AGM, members in attendance thanked Emmanuel Akampurira for his service as Branch Chairman over the past 2 years. Following the AGM, our own Keith Mackie, gave an insightful talk regarding FACTFULNESS based on the book by Hans Rosling, questioning humans reasoning and assessing why we are wrong about the world, and how things are better than we think.
