The SAICE Western Cape AGM was held on Wednesday 16 November at the Athenaeum in Newlands, as well as online via MS Teams. It was attended by 19 members in person and 3 online.

The current chairperson, Geoff du Toit, welcomed everyone to the meeting and the previous minutes were adopted. Geoff then gave a brief overview of the branch activities for 2022, which included an impressive 13 events, including hybrid branch meetings, all possible with the strong support from Western Cape members. He highlighted the success of the in-person schools’ competitions and the end-of-year dinner/dance function held at the end of October 2022.

He highlighted the changes to the branch committee for 2023, as follows:
Resigned: Zindzi Tendo
New Nominations: Akshay Samker
The rest of the committee, including co-opted members, have chosen to remain on the committee for 2023.

The chairman’s report can be found here.

The University of Stellenbosch Chapter and the Treasurer reports were also presented. The University of Stellenbosch benefited from a very active committee this year. The Treasurer’s report indicated that, while expenses were trending upward, the branch was not spending at pre-pandemic levels. It was also noted that, as budgeted, the branch’s expenses exceeded income for 2022. Hopefully, with the success of the 2022 events, SAICE WC will be able to leverage additional sponsorship for 2023.
