In June 2022, the SAICE UCT Student Chapter started an outreach project called Pamoja with a refugee children’s camp under the UNHCR (United Nations High Court for Refugees) and Islamic Relief South Africa. The project thus far has entailed mentoring the children and teaching them life and employability skills such as The 7 Habits of Highly effective people and financial principles. In addition, the children have been taught chess, sudoku, and general geography to mention but a few. The aim is for a life-long mentorship to be created with the children.

On Friday 18th November 2022, Islamic Relief South Africa, in partnership with the UNHCR (United Nations High Court for Refugees) at the launching of phase II of their project for Assistance, Protection, Education, and Self-Reliance for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (APESRA), recognised the SAICE WC branch for the outreach work done via the SAICE UCT Student Chapter 2022. The SAICE UCT Student chapter would like to thank the SAICE WC for giving them this platform and opportunity to be Civil Engineers that make a difference in the community.
